60, eh! Just when most of us might be considering putting our feet up and enjoying some serious retirement downtime, HealthPak feels like it’s really hitting its straps as it forges on into its seventh decade.

We’ve always been 100% family-owned and operated and are proud to be able to use 100% Kiwi ingenuity to come up with new lines, find cost-effective ways to work and pioneer the greenest possible technology for each and every one of our products.

But because we’ve seen some pretty big changes over the past six decades, we thought we’d share with you some of our milestones and highlights.

We started in a building in New Lynn in 1956 before moving to Penrose in the early 1980s and into our current purpose-built 100,000 sq ft home at 120 Hugo Johnston Ave about 10 years ago.

In that time we have employed 398 amazing staff, made more than 10 million Fairtrade products, more than 20 million litres of biodegradable shampoo and more than 796 million degradable sachets. In the past 5 years we’ve introduced our first robot technology into our packaging lines to help us compete in an increasingly global market – for example while a bottle line would have created 1 mould at a time 20 years ago, now we can create 6 at once.

And our favourite launches over the past few years aren’t just about introducing new lines, it’s about changing the way businesses think about the environment in New Zealand.

HealthPak 60 Years2008: We started our Back to Base soap recycling programme, in which we take used soaps from anyone from big hotel chains to little old ladies and convert them into biodegradable industrial cleaning products. Since starting the programme, we have recycled over 40 tonnes of soap!

2011: We launched One Fairtrade, which is the largest collection of portion control Fairtrade beverages on the market, and joined forces with Forest & Bird to create a hair and body care range from which a percentage of every sale goes back to help fund Forest & Bird’s great work.

2013: Joined with The Aromatherapy Company to create the very first 100% New Zealand-made range of retail brand guest hair and body care products.

2014: Created our 100% recycled Eco.logic bottles that create six shampoo bottles out of one 2-litre Anchor lightproof milk bottle.

2015: Partnered with ecostore to launch their guest bathroom amenities range with a commitment to using no nasty chemicals and 100% recyclable packaging using renewable sugarcane-based plastic.

2016: We are currently working closely with Kidscan as our charitable partner. In the past few months alone we have donated more than 67,000 soaps and more than 10,000 individual servings of rice puffs.

So that’s just a little of what we’ve achieved at HealthPak within our first 60 years – and we’re sure that we’ll be able to pack even more innovation and achievements into the next 60.
